Know Your Options and How We Can Help
Brazilian Butt Lift Risks to Consider
A Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is best performed on 26-35-year-old non-smokers in good physical and mental health with enough excess body fat to harvest for the procedure. Everyone stores fat differently, so each case must be evaluated by a qualified surgeon. Overall, the standard BMI for the surgery should be between 23-30 BMI, but not above 35 BMI since it can increase the chances of complications.
The BBL has fewer risks compared to other surgeries, such as silicone buttock implants. Still, as with any surgery, this procedure carries a risk of side effects — some very serious. These include:
- infection
- scarring
- pain, swelling, bruising
- numbness or sensation loss
- fat embolism
- blood clots (Deep Vein Thrombosis)
- puncture of an internal organ during liposuction
- lumps under the skin after liposuction or injections
- loss of skin in treated areas due to deep infection
- complications associated with anesthesia or pain medications
Current reports vary and show a fatality rate is rare, but when the procedure is performed incorrectly, injected fat can enter the large veins in the buttocks, and then travel to the lungs, the brain, or other vital organs. This fat embolism can cause respiratory distress, heart failure, or a stroke, leading to death.
Another known side effect is the failure of your buttocks to take up the grafted fat stores. A certain amount of the fat injected is broken down and absorbed by the body. Usually about 60% of the injected fat stays, while 40% is absorbed. So, you may need an additional procedures to get the results you want. To help minimize this risk, your surgeon may opt to insert extra fat during the first procedure.
Brazilian Butt Lift Recovery and Outlook
Like any cosmetic surgery, you’ll need to take special care after a Brazilian butt lift. You won’t be able to sit on your butt for two weeks following surgery, and you’ll need to sleep on your side or on your stomach until the area has completely healed. Your buttocks may be swollen for several weeks, and it can take up to six months before you see full results from the initial procedure. Overall, the effects of this surgery last several months to years, and depending on the individual, it can last longer.
You can help ensure a positive outcome by maintaining a healthy diet and exercise. Physical training like squats, lunges, plyometrics, and other body weight exercises can actually build the butt muscles up and give you even better results. Core and upper body exercises will also perfect your overall appearance and enhance the curves of your new buttocks. This is where Happy Bones Health and Wellness and the Emsculpt Neo treatments can help you optimize your results. The protocol for treatment of the buttocks focuses on building muscle, it does not burn fat! Your firmer and fuller butt will help reduce the visible cellulite, smoothing and toning the skin. Treatments are also available to strengthen and tone the abdomen, arms, thighs, and calves.
Brazilian Butt Lift Cost
According to the most recent figures from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the average cost of buttock augmentation with fat grafting is $4,807 – anesthesia, operating room, and other miscellaneous costs are not included in the average, so actual cost would be much more. Insurance doesn’t cover a Brazilian Butt Lift because it’s not considered medically necessary. Be wary of “cheap” procedures. Always research your cosmetic surgeon and make sure they are board-certified. For information on final costs, please contact the office of your plastic surgeon. Furthermore, you’ll also need to consider recovery time costs, being away from work, which will be several weeks.
